I am conducting a study on the relationship between wildlife conservation and lives of people in northeastern Africa, specifically Ethiopia. Precious wildlife has been corralled into preservation areas while the regional population has been regulated and restricted in regard to hunting, gathering, and pastoral activities. This is done for the purpose of wildlife preservation and development of the tourism industry in Africa. These complex situations need more explanation than the typical story of conflicts over scarcity of natural resources. The research will analyze the backgrounds that lead to conflicts and explore directions to resolution.
